Reducing distortion for superior sound
For decades, Dali has specialised in the design of magnet systems. For the EPICON 2, they decided to challenge everything they knew to take magnet system design further than ever before. The answer is a Soft Magnetic Composite (SMC) material that offers exactly the right combination of physical properties – exceptionally high magnetic conductivity and extremely low electrical conductivity. The result is a dramatic reduction in distortion caused by mechanical loss in the magnet system.
Oversized tweeter
The EPICON 2’s oversized 29 mm soft dome tweeter is characterised by low resonance frequency, high power handling, exceptional headroom for high sound pressure levels, and extreme excursions. This exceptional combination of qualities combines to delivers an extremely smooth and wide horizontal dispersion – a signature DALI quality.
Wood fibre woofer
DALI believes that low mechanical loss is essential to great sound and was among the first to control frequency response through carefully balanced designs. One such design is their signature wood fibre cone technology, which enables the EPICON 2 to reproduce the finest details and dynamics in any music with very low loss of information.
Exquisite cabinet
The EPICON 2’s real wood veneer cabinet takes craftsmanship to exceptional heights. With 10 layers of lacquer, hand-polished between each application, it’s as durable as it is beautiful. The cabinet also contributes to the sonic performance. Serving as an acoustically tuned ‘spring’ for the drivers, the rigid construction eliminates unwanted resonance, while the curved baffle practically eliminates standing waves.
