Rega Planar 3 Turntable with Exact MM CartridgeThe Planar 3 is fitted with a new RB330 tonearm. This has been re-engineered to feature a new bias assembly, revised stiffer vertical bearing housing, integrated arm clip, and improved spring housing with easier-to-read numbers, a completely new low capacitance phono cable and Neutrik plugs. Improved lower-friction precision horizontal and vertical bearings and a new design 100g mild steel balance weight, round out the upgrades.

Unsurprisingly, after all of the attention lavished on the arm, Rega turned their attention to the plinth. This is now a high-gloss acrylic laminated item that is both stiffer and has a vastly improved appearance and ergonomically positioned power switch. The new plinth once more features bracing on both sides, both of which have been improved. Top brace – New phenolic aluminium skin type, and the Bottom brace – Increased thickness, rigidity, 3mm phenolic type.

The plinth is offered in three finishes: gloss black, gloss white and now red.

Next in line for improvement are the bearing housing and rotating parts. The brass main central bearing has been redesigned to offer an improved fit and a construction that reduces stress on the bearing itself. The sub platter is now constructed with improved accuracy and stiffness, and these updates allow a quieter and more stable platform for the platter. The platter is a new 12mm float glass item with ‘Optiwhite’ polished rim. It features improved accuracy in manufacture and stunning looks.

All of this newly engineered goodness demanded new, redesigned feet that increase the deck’s stability and reduce vibration transfer from outside sources.

The Planar 3 is offered here with the range-topping Rega Exact MM cartridge, making a saving over purchasing separately and providing a sizeable step up in performance from the Elys 2.
